Volvo Ocean RACE: A challenge to the Sea

A race around the world in sailboats of high competition, forces to think about challenges and adventures. And thus she is as regata VOR takes place, one of the hardest, exciting and enriching tests that to us the world of the sport offers nautical.
Before well-known like the Whitbread race for being the name of its English sponsoring creator and, the Volvo Ocean RACE is an event of first magnitude, `circus' in the style of the formula one, in which each equipment comes sponsored by an important trade name to do against the millionaire quantity of its expenses.

The boats are authentic prototypes than they could be the sailboats in the next future, and set up a real proving stand on the new techniques used in naval construction.

With a little more 20 meters of length these machines are authentic bolides of the sea, able to go literally more express than the same wind. It is possible? If, since for example with a wind of the traverse of 20 knots, these boats reach speeds of about 25 knots, and with more force they can get to reach near the 40 knots of speed! And this is a barbarism since on the sea the speeds do not have anything to do with which we are customary to move us in our highways.

The VOR has been constituting a true competition in that the best ones struggle, in which fight record of the world as the obtained one for days, when sailing 541 nautical miles in 24 hours on a monocoque. A test of hardness and firmness by the terrible conditions in which stages of about 10,000 kilometers with winds sail, sometimes calmed, other storm times with waves per mountainous moments.

Thus a new record commented weeks ago the Skipper of boat ABN2 the day lived when beating: They listen…
“Without doubt, this is definitively to live the life on EXTREME form. The food is wet, to sleep is impossible, we are soaked almost always. Any task, to get dressed or even to go bathroom requires a capital effort. The openings are leaking. We are bottled in a battle to avoid that the electronics gets wet to us. The whole boat shakes to each passage of wave. The shock with each pantocazo is brutal. All the winches and brakes in the piano do “crack” as if they were cannon shots, under the enormous tension that they support. The water enters in torrents the bathtub and towards the cabin, so that we must remove it each half an hour to avoid to have a swimming pool in the leeward side. In cover it is like being in front of a hose of firemen with the spurt to top. You take hold yourself like one lapa for mantenerte within the bathtub. In spite of all the difficulty and annoyance, this it is the best site of the world in which now I want to be. I feel happy tearing the South Atlantic at speeds that exceed the 30 knots! It is a sensation difficult to describe, a adrenalin mixture, enthusiasm and excitation, fear and apprehension.”
It crosses all the globe, and it circumnavigates many oceans. This year, first in which it begins outside England, when coming out had its exit in the beautiful Galician town of Sanxenxo, attending His Majesty the King of Spain. 6,400 miles until Cape Town in South Africa, thence to begin the second stage after making Cape of Good Hope by the seas of the South Pacific, in dangerous and exciting 40º rugientes. And further on, in the latitudes South 50º near the Antarctic continent, in which the famous French navigator Titouan Lamazou baptized like - `country' of the shades in which it is not rare to have to confront winds of 70 knots!
Australia, the Indian Ocean, New Zealand, South Pacific, Cape Horn, Brazil, Coast This of the United States and return to house, almost 32,000 miles of emotion, in 9 stages and that can follow precise in Castilian, in the section Last Minute.
