A race around the world and alone with many years of history, celebrated for the first time in 1982 with the name of VOICE Challenge, later to happen to be called the Around Alone RACE. In 2002 the Regata happens to be called the 5 Oceans, that with the sponsorship of Velux are finally with the present name Velux 5 Oceans. In October of 2006 it fulfills his 25 anniversary with a superb health thanks to new sponsoring and sponsors. It is celebrated every 4 years and it covers 30,000 miles with route, crossing the most important seas of the world.

In regata several sections with “StopOvers” settle down in which the participant equipment can repair the boat and prepare it thorough for the following section. For this reason, the competitors can strive and to the maximum take the boats to top, to the knowledge that can repair the possible breakage. In the end one is 3 chained and consecutive races in a world-wide event. In each goal, the participants replenish forces and they prepare themselves mentally for the following stage while they repair and they prepare his sailboats for the following section.

The original concept of this race was proposed by the North American David White in 1979. The idea matured during the 3 following years with the enthusiasm of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, until becoming reality in the VOICE Challenge of 1982.
