Open 70. Technology to the service of the speed

The Volvo of the 2002 already demonstrated that these monocoques are between fastest of world. Present of this edition 2006 Open 70, something is greater, with more new advances technical and able to beat record. 2 meters more of length than the 60' but with very similar profiles and what is incredible are that they weigh the same.  

Its new length allows to support them to spinnaker of 500 m2 and one 175 major of m2, with a 62% more of candle with respect to those of the previous edition. So that we become an idea of the benefits that can reach, we can compare its 14 tons of displacement with a America Glass, that with a 6% more of candles, moves 24 tons!  And of the 14 Tons of the Open 70' about 7000 kilos are in afiladísima keel and the heavy bulb, obtaining a very low center of gravity and therefore brutales adrizantes pairs, to stabilize to these beasts `crams down' miles. In case outside little, their keels are pivotantes to increase still the adrizamiento still more.

The new norms for the VO70 have allowed the accomplishment of helmets with pivotantes keels that move away the bulb until 40º of the vertical axis by means of hydraulic pistons. The secured stability is the one of a America Glass, but with 10,000 kilos less than it ballast!

The construction of the helmet is totally in Carbon with reinforcements of Kevlar in the prow, and also structures in bee panel have been used.  The wood also entirely is realized in carbon fiber and partly of the equipment also they have been used material composed instead of the steel inox, managing savings of weight and to lower the center of gravity still more. These new materials are able to support to the tensions and loads that now are necessarily more discharges. The helmets are lighter and rigid able to jump of wave in wave landing on the sea on the crests that are put ahead.

As it already demonstrated the Movistar from Australia during the training, one is about securing the 600 daily miles in monocoque. In fact the Movistar has beaten recently the record of the world with 530 millas/24 hours, but it possibly returns to be surpassed again.

In spite of being pure otimizados bloods in all the aspects, the construction rules force to that they can even be autoadrizar with upsets of 180º (without mast). Inside the helmet hermetic partitions exist and the keel is supported in sacrifice bulkheads that would avoid the destruction of the helmet in case of a brutal impact of the bulb to 35 knots against a floating container or a whale.

Under cover everything is very Spartan but very functional, with a minimum of comfort and possibility of isolating a little the life in cover. Everything is protected against the blows which the crews by the continuous swings of the sea are put under. The freeboard is something greater at full speed to avoid the arrival of the water sent against the bathtub.

At the most fast it is a boat, minor is the angle by which the boat receives the apparent wind. The wind is almost always made feel of prow instead of to notice it you haul in by them. The crew needs to sharpen plus the adjustment of the candles that are flatter and rigid. Spis is even enough planes and all asymmetric ones. The number of allowed candles has descended from 38 in the previous edition to 24, of which 11 in a stage can only be taken on board (without counting the storm candles). It is necessary to choose candles that are fast and multipurpose. The crew in charge of the handling of the candles descends from 12 to 9 people, of who normally 5 are in cover while the others rest.
