Tim Troy must finally delay its exit. Their 60 OPEN Margaret Ana at the moment does not fulfill the rule established by IMOCA, the association of class of sailboats OPEN 60, organization that has become very strict after the incidents happened at the end of the Nineties during the celebration from this same regata.
 
There is a series of essential rules of the IMOCA on the stability of the boats. According to the norm, using all the movable ballast (with the inner water tanks or the pivotante keel totally risen) tests another that consists of, holding to the boat by a lateral one, that this does not list more of 10º to a band or another one. And there is another parameter that talks about the maximum angle of lists that the boat must of being able of not listing more of 127,5º of angle that is known like the AVS. And in the measurement that was done to the Margaret Ana to him it detected that it was outside measurement by three degrees.
 
When knowing the North American landlord Tim Troy that its boat did not fulfill the requirements of stability of the IMOCA, this one put in contact with the designer of its boat the French Bernat Nivelt, who has proposed to him that the solution is in adding about 300 kilos of lead to the keel of the boat in the zone of the saber, the piece that goes from the helmet to the bulb. Something that is not the normal thing since when lead in the keel is increased does in the bulb, but the French architect prefers to make it in the “saber” of the keel to alleviate extra load in the low part of the keel and to locate it more near the point where he turns this with the helmet.
 
Tim Troy comments, as far as having additional weight in the well of the boat like another solution: “I am not designer nor constructor of yachts, but a thing I know, I will be much more contented to sail like this now boat instead of to make it in the last moment and for entering the austral ocean without verifying them. My plan now is to try to do everything so that the boat fulfills the norm of the IMOCA.
