 Norms of Transat 6,50

The regulation has been written up so that it animates and it foments the participation in all the aspects. The race has like last aim improving and to advance in the development of these small sailboats as well as to improve the security of navigation, and all this without falling in excessively high costs. A series of tests has been implanted clasificatorias whose unique objective, far from to act as it sifts, simply allows the participant futures to regain consciousness of the difficulty of the test and to favor the acquisition of the marine spirit, solidarity between the participants and to reinforce the necessary sense of the responsibility during the height navigation.

The boats that participate in Transat 6.50 must be totally independent, in all the senses of the word. Each skipper it will be able to count solely on his own means to realize all the route, having to be able to make against any situation of emergencia and power to improvise fortune solutions, as well as to be able to reach about they themselves and without outer aid a port.

The participants are organized in two categories: Prototypes and Boats of Series, that will give rise to two classifications different and therefore from two winners. Rutaje is not allowed any and the participants must sign an honor declaration in which they assume this premise. The computer science equipment of electronic aid to navigation as well as equipment and computers strictly are prohibited, except for the autopilot, the GPS, and a vane with anemometer. To any food supply or physical contact with other boats during the race is not allowed. Each boat must be equipped with one fixed VHF radio of a power in antenna of 25 watios, but it is prohibited any attendance through the radio, that is not by medical causes or of extreme urgency.

In 1999 half of the participants left due to the hardness of the test and the lack of physical training and psychological. For that reason the qualification routes were created that must be sailed by the candidates like essential requirement for the classification. The objective is really simple; To allow the candidates to take brings back to consciousness on the one hand of its true technical level as well as of its psychic capacity to confront navigation alone. Each even man-boat must have sailed at least 2,000 miles, of which 1,000 outside race, and other 1,000 in one of the tests of the calendar of classification of Transat 6,50. Participants who already have run Transat 6.50 and have changed of boat, simply must have participated in one of the tests of the calendar for 2006/2007.

In each boat he must have a beacon of positioning by satellite Immarsat D+, independent of the emergencia beacon. The Immarsat beacon is totally independent and emits the position of the boat several times to the day during all the race. These received data in center of data allow to make every 12 hours the provisional classification of all the participants, that could be consulted in Internet. The Immarsat beacons allow when skipper to send certain information in each emission, being allowed to solicit to the organization and under validation of the director of the race, the attendance on the high seas by one of the 6 boats of support that will follow the route and power to give attendance to the navigators.

In future edition 2007, the safety measures have improved and for that reason each participant must take a short course from survival with theoretical formation who explains the safety ruleses, aid, procedures of fortune, materials of security,… as well as a specific and practical formation on the use of this material of aid.
