Also known known regatas In-Shore, this edition 2005/2006 of the VOR offers before each stage (leg) one regata coastal of short duration (a few hours) and that contributes of a very important way to the total score of the Volvo Ocean RACE. In fact each regata coastal is worth half of points that a stage, and for that reason are very disputed. This way almost a quarter of all the points that can be harvested (a 22.5%) belongs to regatas local, and that they can give complete upsets to the tables of the general. These regatas coastal take very accessible place in zones, so that it can be followed by thousands of fans in direct. Of 20 or 30 miles of route, they are developed generally like a fitted triangular route with one, a length that is sailed generally as two bands of traverse because the reached speeds finally improve the times of this second section and a third triangular side with total cross-wind. Each triangular section usually has 4 miles of distance.
Of these regatas coastal the crew of each boat consists of at least 9 people who or find participated in the previous section or which they are going to compete in the following one, to which two new crew can be added who usually have great knowledge of the local zones in which regata is developed. Also they can accompany to the regatistas of each equipment up to three guests who will enjoy in the heat of living regata direct!
