Bay of Palm

The palm bay is one of the best fields of regata of Europe. With an excellent climatology, that in the first fortnight of August is marked by the “Embat”, thermal breeze that blows of the SW and that provides suitable conditions for the practice of navigation to candle, the bay of Palm has been the scene of this Glass of the King for more than 20 years.

The “Embat” depends on thermal factors, of the unequal heating of the sea and the Earth as a result of the sun. The Glass of the King has been characterized by the joint competition of boats of different sizes. In 1982 and comprising of the Championship the International of the Mediterranean (CIM), the I is born Glass from S.M the King. One will be regata international with general classification of all the classes in compensated time.

During his 1ª edition competed in a unique classification that grouped to all the classes IOR (International Offshore Rule). 2ª edition became to celebrate jointly with the CIM and participated more than 50 boats. During this edition Antonio Puig it reaches an agreement to sponsor it. A route different in the Long Regata was decided according to the size from the boat reason why this test did not enter the classification of the Glass of the King. In spectacular Spain they for the first time participated “maxis”.

During 1984 the development the Glass of S.M the King independent of the CIM. The Glass had secured sufficient prestige to have own name. It was a hard competition for the jury due to a bad interpretation of a change of buoy on the part of several boats.


From IV the edition and supported by its sponsoring unique Antonio Puig and its line Brave Water, the international projection of the Glass of the King begins giving the hand to the most important tests of the Mediterranean.



The V Glass of the King was one of the most exciting and the one of greater quality of participation of all the international season. The fourth and last test was going to be definitive, was still no a clear winner, the fight settled down between three Spanish boats: Illes Balears, Atlantic Bank and Anquin´s and a German, Diva which ended up prevailing taking advantage of the fight between the Spanish boats.

In 1.987 with the purpose of to harness the competition by equipment, similar to those of the “Admiral´s Cup” and the “Sardinia Cup”, restored the Real Trophy Club Nautical of Palm for the equipment formed by the three boats better classified than they represented a country, federation or club. In addition a trophy for the First Class was created monotypes of the ANC. In addition the Glass to the King that year, was a puntuable test for the Glass of the World of Maxis.

During VII the edition the number of participants, 88 boats grew, of which 31 belonged to 10 foreign countries. It also increased the number of sponsored boats arriving at 34. But it was during VIII the edition when the application of norm IMS started up. With XV the edition, the Glass of the King recovered its splendor returning to surpass the 100 enrolled boats. The Real Spanish Federation of Candle assumed the technical organization of regata. This edition introduced a series of modifications, the number of tests increased to seven eliminating the Olympic triangles and adding: two routes windward-leeward of 8 and 10 miles each, one regata of average distance of 34 miles, one regata of long distance of 150 miles with a new route Palm - Tagomago - Goatherd - Palm, a windward-leeward of 14 miles. The exits were not going away to give by classes but the RMS for the calculation of the implicit wind would be joint in each division being applied. The winning national equipment will be that one that when finalizing regata, has the best total score of the equipment, in case of tie will consider winner to the National Equipment that has better Combined Score of a test. 19 equipment of 8 different countries register.

During the edition of 2,002 45 with ten boats appear the new lengths of 44 on 45 feet with new the IMX and Great Soleil 44 with three boats. Several of the challenges of the America Glass are present with their crew, also met regatistas and world-wide champions, as well as Olympic medals transoceanic. All this creates a great expectation between the spectators.
